Italian Trifle

When discussing Italian cuisine, we often think of pizza, pasta, and lasagna, but Italian desserts are equally delectable. Today, I will introduce you to an Italian trifle known as Zuppa Inglese. Traditionally, it consists of ladyfingers or sponge cake soaked in Alchermes liqueur. However, we're adding a twist by soaking the ladyfingers in a different drink. Ingredients:

  • 10 Italian ladyfinger biscuits, lightly crushed
  • 100 grams of cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup of cold double cream
  • 1 tbsp of lemon zest
  • A variety of berries such as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, and cherries
  • 4-5 almonds and walnuts, roughly chopped
  • Mint leaves for garnish

If you want to make the best trifle, you should purchase very soft and flavorful ladyfingers biscuits.

Instructions:

  • Crush and combine the ladyfinger biscuits, then layer them at the bottom of the glass.
  •  Create a layer of berries on top of the crushed biscuits, reserving some for the garnish.
  •  In a bowl, whip the double cream until stiff peaks form, ensuring the cream is cold, and set it aside.
  •  Beat the cream cheese with confectioners' sugar on high speed until light and fluffy.
  • Using a spatula, carefully fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  • Stir in the lemon zest.
  •  With a spoon or piping bag, add a layer of the cream mixture into the jar.
  • Finish with a topping of berries, chopped almonds, and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
